Aaron,
Your episode on the starting internet bid was sweet. I had this conversation with you by phone about 2 years ago. At that time you gave me the thinking of the 10 dollar starting bid. I have never deviated from that format.

This week (actually Wed) we completed a bank ordered asset sale. Everything went with a starting bid of 10.00 as usual. The bank VP called to tell me he was a little nervous looking at a 10.00 bid on a custom Nissan PU truck. I told him I was a little nervous about the bad commercial loan he had made and that he should call me at the end of the auction. We sold the truck for more than mark to market if fair market means anything anymore.

Also, you and Rob will love this, we had a 100 % sale thru rate on an internet auction. Delicious! The way we did it was to incorporate concepts you taught at ATS and then a little newspaper trick I know with one of Rob's ideas. It worked, it was techie and used puff. The beauty was that my local newspaper made 2 mistakes two weeks in a row and left us out of the local print media. It did not bother us a bit. Yes,I made them pay for their mistake. Today the greatest marketing auctioneer in the world me received a front page top header bar listing with "piston"the famous auction house kitty. In the inside was a 6 column story about piston and Abal Auction Real Estate with a 3 column photo.

Thanks for all the great ideas in ATS. The best course I've ever taken as an auctioneer. If I haven't sung you and Rob's praises for the course let me know.Oh,ya the 10.00 dollar starting bid works across the board. The technique generates interest, drives marketing and gets the competion flowing. It actually acts as a interest grabber to the internet bounce you get when your phone starts to ring.

Thank You and keep up this excellent site.
Joseph A. Abal,Ph.D.
